The last time I posted I said it might be awhile before I was able again because my life was about to get super crazy. I was totally right...

my new insanity
I'd like to introduce you to Princess Ophelia Smooshyface Frump, but please feel free to address her more informally as "Your Majesty."

Ophelia has some airway issues that she might outgrow, or may become more serious, we don't really know. However, since John and I have experience with dogs that have medical issues, we decided we could give her a good home no matter what the future brings.

She is as demanding and bossy as her moniker implies, and frankly she's wearing us all out. She's adorable though, so she's got that going for her at least.

I'm still lettering everyday (well almost, I missed one), even if I'm not blogging it every day. I may have to blog in chunks for awhile until life regains some normalcy.

While we're on the subject of my insanity, I did a really stupid thing. I joined not one, but two lettering challenges for the month of March.
Can you guess what the first word was?
This was a supremely dumb move on my part, because I've been chasing a puppy around my house for the last four days in a futile attempt to keep her from eating everything I own, including another dog whose tail is apparently scrumptious. It was also dumb because I've only been doing this for a month or so now, and I'm still not very good at it.

So I practiced the first word a bit before the challenge, but then I made the even dumber mistake of looking at the challenge hashtag before I started working on my official entry, and got really intimidated. Everything was just so... Good.

Then my anxiety kicked in, and started questioning why I was even doing this at all, I'm never going to be as good as the people I'm following, I suck at literally EVERYTHING, and I'm just so stupid for thinking this might be any different.

But I took a deep breath, and did it anyway, because I said I wasn't going to quit. I promised myself I would do it every day for at least six months before I decided I wasn't improving. And even though I wasn't happy with my finished piece, and I knew it wasn't as good as the others, I uploaded it to Instagram anyway, because maybe someone else out there is just starting too, and they're intimidated by all the amazing work they're seeing, and they need to see it's ok to be a beginner.

Then I did the same thing for the second challenge. It's not great, it's not even good, but it's a start, and we all have to start somewhere.

I may not get entries in for all the days of the challenges, but I'm going to keep trying, and keep telling myself that they don't have to be amazing. I'm going to do my best to take it one day at a time, and ignore the voices in my head.

The upside to all this is that I had to actually learn how to use Instagram, which I was supposed to do a long time ago for the salon, but never really did. You can follow me if you like, at any one of my three accounts:

Drills, Drills, and more Drills

I still don't know if my drills are getting any better, and I don't really want to compare them to my starts yet, because if they're not, I'm going to get discouraged. So I'm just plugging away at them.

I'm in week three now, and I'm using my pink Pentel Brush Pen this week.

Since my lettering isn't anything great to look at this post, I'll leave you with an adorable smooshyface to cleanse your visual palette.

See you as soon as I'm able!
